about
"A Summer's Tale" is a fairly dark love story, deadly and introspective in turn. The narration reveals, progressively, halftone images of a paradise lost, tasted only for a brief time. The voices exude melancholy. For anyone listening, it's impossible to escape the dark romanticism of the song ; wounds and cuts to the heart, but also sudden shafts of sunlight through the maritime pines. Even in the heart of winter. "A Summer's Tale" is also a story of summer trying to forget that winter will come, sooner or later. A loving attempt at warding off fate. So, can winter and summer meet and become one? Can they melt into each other? We find ourselves wanting to believe it's possible, in spite of the slim chances of success or it happening. And the song becomes, almost unintentionally, in spite of itself, an ode to the present moment.
lyrics
A SUMMER’S TALE
You bring him the summer
And God knows how
But you know
Soon comes the breath
Then the lump in the throat
Laying each other down
'Till silence and dawn
She brings in the summer
She brought him the summer
But what will they have?
Do you know?
She came along
But her hands were cold
Seen her icy smile
That very summer
She waved all along but he’d never got it
She belongs to none
Sure it was hard
And God didn’t help
To wipe him off from her heart
When winter’s breath
On your neck you feel the cold
Living together will
Turn to a summer’s tale
She came along
But her hands were cold
Seen her icy smile
That very summer
She waved all along but he’d never got it
She belongs to none
She brings him the summer
Winter and summer can be twins ?
She brought him the summer
Winter and summer can melt in love
But what did they have ?
She came along
But her hands were cold
She … belongs to none
